Lok Adalats settle 1.1 lakh cases worth Rs. 77 crore across the country

More than 1 lakh cases across India were settled by Lok Adalats on Saturday, according to a recent PIB news release. The cases related to criminal compoundable matters and had a combined value of more than Rs. 77 crore.

Of these cases, about 98,000 were pending matters and over 13,000 were pre-litigation matters.

The National Lok Adalat, which is being organized by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) under the directions of Chief Justice of India HL Dattu and Justice TS Thakur, has left no stone unturned in trying to alleviate the pendency of cases in courts across India.

This year alone, over 16.4 lakh cases have been settled by Lok Adalats. As a consequence, disputes involving a total value of a whopping Rs. 553 crore have been settled with finality.

The next Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on October 10 and will deal with Traffic, Petty Matters and municipal Matters.
