The Tamil Nadu government has issued a notification inviting applications for the appointment of Law Officers, following directions issued by the Madras High Court on a PIL filed by Advocate V Vasanthkumar.
Vasanthkumar had approached the Court raising objections over the lack of transparency in appointment of the officers to the Madras High Court in accordance with the Law Officers of High Court of Madras and its Bench at Madurai (Appointment) Rules, 2017.
Responding to the concerns raised, the Bench of Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice Abdul Quddhose had passed an order directing that the state frame guidelines for making the selection more transparent.
Further, the Court also directed that as and when applications are invited for the appointment of law officers, notices intimating the same should be displayed in all recognised bar associations.
Accordingly, the notification dated July 25 has directed that the notice is displayed on the notice board of the Madras Bar Association for the benefit of interested Advocates.
