MergerMarket 2015: AZB tops league tables followed by Khaitan; Cyril ahead of Shardul Amarchand

AZB & Partners leads the MergerMarket preliminary league tables of 2015 with 73 deals, valued at $10.45 billion. Khaitan & Co is next on the list, with 50 deals valued at $7.3 billion.

This year’s table has seen some major changes, with the split of Amarchand Mangaldas and the emergence of two new entities – Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas and Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas.

In 2014, the combined Amarchand Mangaldas had topped the deal value league table with 42 deals valued at $14.89 billion, while AZB & Partners ranked second with 44 deals valued at $7.8 billion.

Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas is right behind Khaitan with 30 deals valued at $5.1 billion, while Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas is at 11^th position, with 20 deals valued at $2.28 billion.

Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas was followed by J. Sagar Associates (JSA) and Luthra & Luthra. JSA advised on 35 deals worth $3.8 billion, while Luthra acted on 15 deals worth $3.1 billion.

S&R Associates is at 10^th, with 9 deals valued at $2.28 billion, followed by Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas. Trilegal was ranked 13^th, with 25 deals valued at $1.7 billion. Nishith Desai Associates comes in next, with 14 deals worth $1.5 billion.

The international law firms in the league table include Davis Polk & Wardwell, Clifford Chance, Sullivan & Cromwell, Linklaters and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett.

By Count

AZB worked on 73 deals this year, as compared to 44 deals last year. Khaitan finds itself in second place with 50 deals.

JSA is ranked third with 35 deals, followed by Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (30 deals), Trilegal (25 deals), Desai & Diwanji (24 deals) and Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas (20 deals).

BMR Legal moved up six positions on the league table and is ranked 9^th with 17 deals. The other firms in the league table include Luthra & Luthra, Nishith Desai Associates, PH Bathiya, IndusLaw, HSA Advocates and S&R Associates.
