

Mergermarket has released its M&A league tables for the first half of 2017. Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas has topped the deal value table, with 16 deals valued at $16.7 billion. AZB & Partners has recorded the highest number of deals (32) for H1 2017.
The $12.7 billion Idea-Vodafone merger, which took place back in March, remains the highest value deal in the Asia-Pacific region thus far this year. That deal has helped a couple of Indian firms feature at the top of the league tables.
Deal Value
One of the firms involved in that deal, AZB, is in a close second place in the deal value tables, with 32 deals at $16.6 billion. S&R Associates, who acted for Vodafone, is third with 6 deals at $13.2 billion, followed by Vaish Associates – who appeared for the other side – with 3 deals at $12.9 billion.
The other two firms on the deal – Slaughter & May and Bharucha & Partners – are in fifth and sixth places, with 2 deals at $12.8 billion and 1 deal at $12.7 billion respectively.
The rest are far behind; Trilegal is in seventh with 16 deals at $2.8 billion, followed by Cyril Amarchand with 26 deals at $2.7 billion and Nishith Desai Associates with 8 deals at $1.9 billion. Desai & Diwanji and PDS Legal are the other Indian firms in the top 15.
The foreign firms include Drinker Biddle & Reath, Mayer Brown, Morrison & Foerster and Davis Polk & Wardwell.

Cyril Amarchand has the second most deals after AZB, with 26. Khaitan & Co has 19 deals, followed by Shardul Amarchand and Trilegal with 16 each. JSA, DSK Legal, Desai & Diwanji, Nishith Desai Associates and HSA Advocates complete the top ten.
The other Indian firms with most deals include S&R, PDS Legal, Luthra & Luthra and Bathiya Legal.
