The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) headed by Justice Sanjiv Khanna of Supreme Court has launched a pan-India campaign titled "Restoring the Youth," aimed at identifying juveniles in prisons and providing them with legal assistance required to prove their juvenility before courts. .Justice Khanna while inaugurating the launch emphasized, “Criminals are made by circumstances. No one is born a criminal. The path towards criminality is often a result and consequence of experiences and circumstances mostly shaped by neglect, external influences or lack of guidance.".The campaign which will run from January 25, 2024 to February 27, 2024, will focus on identifying individuals currently incarcerated who were potentially minors at the time of the offence.The campaign with then assist them in filing necessary applications for claiming juvenility before the appropriate court and facilitating their transfer to Child Care Institutions in identified cases..The campaign was undertaken by NALSA after it received a plea from a convict undergoing life imprisonment claiming to have been a minor at the time of his arrest in 2003..The virtual launch event was attended by Executive Chairpersons, Member Secretaries and other officials from all State Legal Services Authorities.
