NJA, GMU conduct judicial workshop on Admiralty and Shipping Laws

The Gujarat Maritime University (GMU), in association with the National Judicial Academy (NJA), is organising a two-day Judicial Workshop on Admiralty & Shipping Laws.

The workshop will be held on August 8 and 9, 2026 at GMU, Gandhinagar. It will bring together judges exercising Admiralty Jurisdiction from the High Courts of Calcutta, Bombay, Madras, Gujarat, Orissa, Kerala and Andhra Pradesh, along with judicial resource persons, for deliberations on admiralty and shipping law.

As per the press release, the workshop assumes significance in view of India's expanding maritime sector and its growing integration with global trade. Admiralty and shipping disputes, the release states, often involve complex questions relating to maritime claims, jurisdiction, commercial transactions and international legal frameworks. The programme, therefore seeks to facilitate dialogue on the legal principles and practical dimensions involved in adjudicating such disputes.

The release adds that the participation of judges from the seven High Courts provides an opportunity for exchange of judicial experiences and perspectives on the interpretation and application of admiralty and shipping laws.
