The Confederation of Alumni for National Law Universities Foundation (CAN Foundation) in collaboration with the National Law Institute University, Bhopal and Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur is proud to announce the upcoming event, the 3rd Justice HR Khanna Memorial National Symposium.

This symposium serves as a tribute to the extraordinary legacy of Late Justice HR Khanna, a towering figure in the Indian judiciary. The event will take place virtually on 8 July 2023.

ABOUT JUSTICE HR KHANNA

Late Justice HR Khanna was a legal luminary who left an indelible mark on the Indian judiciary. Born on October 28 1912, in Amritsar, Punjab, he embarked on a remarkable journey that would shape the course of India's legal landscape.

Justice Khanna's unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the Fundamental Rights of citizens remains an inspiration to generations of legal professionals. His illustrious career spanned several decades, during which he played a pivotal role in shaping constitutional jurisprudence.

Throughout his tenure as a Supreme Court Judge from 1971 to 1977, Justice Khanna delivered a series of landmark judgments that left an indelible imprint on the fabric of Indian democracy. His fearless pursuit of justice and his dedication to preserving the sanctity of the Constitution stand as a testament to his unwavering principles.

THE SYMPOSIUM

The 3rd Justice HR Khanna Memorial National Symposium will be graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including Supreme Court Judge Justice MM Sundresh as the Chief Guest and Supreme Court Judge Justice Dipankar Dutta as the Presiding Guest.

The symposium will consist of two engaging sessions, each focusing on a crucial aspect of the judicial system.

The first session, titled "State Surveillance & Privacy - The Lakshaman Rekha Between Criminal Investigation and Privacy", will explore the delicate balance between criminal investigation and privacy rights in an era of heightened state surveillance. This session aims to provoke thoughtful discussions on striking the right balance between security concerns and safeguarding individual privacy.

The second session, "Legal Stalwarts & Their Contribution To the Judicial System", will pay homage to the remarkable contributions of legal luminaries to the Indian judicial system. It will delve into the transformative impact of these stalwarts' decisions, judgments, and legal philosophy, emphasizing the enduring legacy they have left behind.

The CAN Foundation, in collaboration with National Law University Jodhpur and Gujarat National Law University, Gandhinagar, had the distinct privilege of hosting the 1st Justice H R Khanna Memorial National Symposium.

The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including then Supreme Court Judge Justice U U Lalit as the Chief Guest, Supreme Court Judge Justice V Ramasubramanian as the Presiding Guest, and Dr Justice S Muralidhar as the Guest of Honour.

At the 2nd Justice H R Khanna Memorial National Symposium, organized in collaboration with Dr Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow, and National Law University, Odisha, was a momentous occasion. The symposium was honored to have Supreme Court Judge Justice Vikram Nath as the Chief Guest and Supreme Court Judge Justice JB Pardiwala as the Presiding Guest, both eminent personalities in the legal realm.

Speaking about the 3rd edition of the upcoming symposium, Adv Siddharth R Gupta, CEO, CAN Foundation, expressed his deepest reverence for Late Justice H.R. Khanna and the significance of commemorating his contributions to the field of law.

He stated,

Shivkant Shukla showcased his unwavering dedication to constitutional principles and the protection of individual liberties.
