National Law University, Jodhpur graduate Kartikey Mahajan is making a move back to India, joining Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas from United Kingdom law firm King & Spalding. He is joining the firm as a Counsel.
Mahajan, who specialises in international arbitration, complex multi-jurisdictional litigation and white-collar investigation, will join the Mumbai office of SAM in January 2021.
Speaking to Global Arbitration Review on the move, Mahajan said,
"Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas was an obvious choice for me because of its market-leading international arbitration practice. The firm has an impressive client base of leading Indian and global corporations and a busy caseload of international commercial and investment treaty arbitration matters. Rishab [Gupta, Partner at SAM] has done an excellent job of building the international arbitration practice in Mumbai and I am excited to work with him, Pallavi Shroff, Tejas Karia and other members of the disputes team to further develop the arbitration practice."
Mahajan, who is qualified to practice in India, New York, and England and Wales, is a 2011 graduate of NLU Jodhpur. After working with an Additional Solicitor General for three years, he went to do an LL.M. at Harvard University.
After graduating from Harvard, he worked with Clifford Chance in Singapore for two years, before moving to the UK. He worked at Kirkland & Ellis, before joining King & Spalding in 2019.
Mahajan is also a Visiting Faculty at his alma mater NLU Jodhpur. He serves on various arbitration bodies including the YSIAC Steering Committee and is the UK national representative of the International Bar Association (IBA) Young Lawyers Committee.
