Now, pro-CAA lawyers sing Vande Mataram at Supreme Court lawns in support of the legislation

A group of lawyers assembled at the Supreme Court lawns this afternoon to sing India's National Song, Vande Mataram, as a mark of their support for the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019..The lawyers also recited the Preamble to the Constitution of India in Hindi immediately after singing the National Song. The Preamble reading was followed by chants of "We support CAA" from some of them. .This show of support for the controversial legislation that has caused a nationwide stir comes a day after a group of about forty lawyers assembled at the same spot to read the Preamble in solidarity with those protesting against the CAA..Yesterday's demonstration at the Supreme Court lawns was carried out with a view to upholding the constitutional values and reminding the judiciary that this is our Constitution..These demonstrations by Supreme Court lawyers come at a time when a large number of people from various quarters of civil society are protesting the newly passed legislation on grounds that it is against the secualr fabric of Indian Constitution. .A few rallies and marches in support of the CAA have also been carried out by some sections to counter the swelling protests. A manifestation of the same was evident at the Supreme Court by way of yesterday's and today's demonstrations..Recently, a gathering of Madras High Court lawyers also read out the Preamble of the Constitution as part of a protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. .A number of petitions challenging various aspects of the controversial legislation are pending before the Supreme Court. The Bench led by Chief Justice of India SA Bobde is due to take up the matter later this month.
