One Additional Judge each of Calcutta HC and Himachal Pradesh HC made permanent

The Central Government has notified that an additional judge each of the Calcutta High Court and the Himachal Pradesh High has been made permanent High Court judges.

Two notifications to this effect were issued on Monday.

Following these notifications, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay has been made a permanent judge of the Calcutta High Court and Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua has been made a permanent judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

Justice Gangopadhyay was elevated from the Bar and appointed as an additional judge of the Calcutta High Court in May 2018, after having been recommended twice by the Supreme Court Collegium i.e. in May 2017 and March 2018.

Justice Dua was elevated from the Bar and appointed as an additional judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court in May 2019, a month after the Collegium approved the proposal to appoint her as an additional judge.

The Supreme Court Collegium had approved their appointment as permanent judges earlier this month.
