Overrule launches agentic operating system for Supreme Court lawyers

Overrule has announced the public launch of its integrated agentic legal operating system, purpose-built for Indian lawyers and designed specifically for advocates and law firms practicing before the Supreme Court of India.

Supreme Court litigation involves extensive legal research, multiple rounds of drafting, translation of documents from various Indian languages, analysis of voluminous case records and compliance with strict filing formats and procedural timelines. Lawyers often rely on multiple software applications and online tools to complete these tasks, resulting in fragmented workflows and significant manual effort.

Built exclusively for the Indian legal ecosystem, Overrule is grounded in Indian statutes, judicial precedents and litigation workflows. The platform brings together drafting, legal research, legal opinions, translation, OCR, document analysis and PDF management into a single integrated workspace, enabling advocates to prepare matters more efficiently while maintaining the precision and professional standards required for Supreme Court practice.

The platform is designed to reduce legal drafting time from approximately three days to nearly 30 minutes and legal research time from around five hours to approximately 15 minutes. It also provides instant translation across 16 Indian languages while preserving legal terminology and contextual accuracy, along with OCR for scanned records, annexures, handwritten notes, and other legal documents. In addition, Overrule offers citation-backed legal opinions, document analysis, and PDF management tools, including merging, pagination, bookmarking, reordering, and organisation of documents for court filings.

Overrule is backed by one of the most comprehensive legal knowledge repositories assembled for Indian litigation. The platform provides access to the complete repository of Supreme Court of India judgments with official SCR (Supreme Court Reports) citations, as prescribed by the Supreme Court, along with judgments from various High Courts, the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT), and the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC).

It also contains more than 17,000 statutes, including Central Acts, State Acts, Rules, Regulations, By-laws, Government Notifications, Government Orders (GOs), and allied legislative materials. In addition, advocates have access to articles published in nearly 100 leading law journals, Law Commission of India Reports, and the Constituent Assembly Debates, enabling comprehensive legal research from a single platform.

One of the challenges repeatedly highlighted by advocates using general-purpose AI tools has been the risk of fabricated or non-existent case citations. The Supreme Court has also acknowledged this concern in its Draft Regulations on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Judicial and Court Processes, which emphasise the need for human oversight and caution while relying on AI-generated content. Overrule has been purpose-built to address this challenge by grounding its legal research and drafting in authentic legal sources, including official SCR citations and verified legal databases, with the objective of substantially reducing the risk of inaccurate or fabricated case law references.

The platform assists advocates in preparing end-to-end Special Leave Petitions (SLPs), Writ Petitions, Counter Affidavits, Transfer Petitions, Review Petitions, Interlocutory Applications, and other filings before the Supreme Court of India. Lawyers remain in complete control throughout the drafting process and can review, edit, refine, or modify drafts either by typing or through voice commands before downloading the final document in Microsoft Word format for further editing or as a court-ready PDF.

Designed to automate repetitive and administrative aspects of litigation, Overrule functions as an assistive agent while ensuring that advocates retain complete control over every legal argument, pleading, and submission. By reducing time spent on routine tasks, it enables lawyers to devote greater attention to legal strategy, client counselling, negotiation, and courtroom advocacy.

The platform has also been developed keeping in view the principles contained in the Supreme Court of India’s Draft Regulations on the Use of Artificial Intelligence in Judicial and Court Processes, ensuring that technology assists legal professionals without replacing the independent professional judgment of advocates.

Prior to its public launch, Overrule operated in a private preview for over six months. During this period, the platform was adopted by more than 100 advocates practising before the Supreme Court of India, along with several litigation-focused law firms, whose feedback during the alpha testing and beta testing stages helped shape its workflows, features, and capabilities before its commercial release.
