COVID-19: Plea filed in Kerala High Court to provide preventive Homeopathic medicines to students before schools reopen

A petition has been filed before the Kerala High Court seeking directions to the State government to urgently provide sufficient doses of Homeopathic prophylactic medicines against Covid to all willing students before schools in the State reopen in November 2021. .The petition was filed by advocate MS Vineeth , a former Central Government counsel in the High Court of Kerala. Once it was announced that schools in Kerala would be reopened in November, the petitioner preferred a representation to the Government of Kerala to provide alternate medical protection for school children by immediately administering Homeopathic prophylactic medicines against Covid. However, since the Kerala Government did not allegedly consider the said representation, Vineeth approached the High Court through advocate VT Madhavanunni. .The petition highlighted that the need to administer prophylactic medicines to school children before they return to schools next month is especially crucial as the vaccines available presently have not yet been approved by the Centre for those under the age of 18..The petitioner cited the judgement of the Kerala High Court in an earlier plea filed by him in which it was recorded that the Kerala government had approved the action plan of Homeo Department for giving Homeo medicines as prophylactic against Covid. At the time, the Kerala government had also submitted that the advisory of the Ministry of AYUSH was being followed and tablets were given free of cost as immunity boosters..Further, the petitioner also cited a judgment of the Supreme Court in which it was held that Homoeopathic medical practitioners can prescribe treatment to COVID-19 positive patients as a preventive measure, with the only embargo being that such a prescription cannot be termed as a cure..Thus, the petitioner claimed that extensive use of Homeopathy against Covid is absolutely approved. .According to the petitioner, by failing to consider the representation preferred by him, the Kerala Government is acting in violation of the right to health guaranteed by the Constitution of India."The respondents utterly failed to assess the well established strength of Homeopathy which has emerged successful in combating the epidemics. The respondents absolutely failed to consider that unlike vaccination, Homeopathic prophylactic medicines have always proved absolutely safe for all ages," the plea said. .Therefore, the petitioner sought directions to the State to administer prophylactic homeopathic medicines to students through their schools.
