Plea in Ajmer court seeks injunction against PM Modi's Chadar offering to Ajmer Sharif Dargah

A plea has been filed before an Ajmer court seeking a temporary injunction to restrain Prime Minister Narendra Modi from offering Chadar to the Ajmer Sharif Dargah during the Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti..The plea has prayed that no chadar should be placed on the dargah by the Central government since the site is currently a subject matter of legal dispute.The application filed by Hindu Sena President Vishnu Gupta is part of an ongoing suit before the Ajmer Court alleging that the Ajmer Sharif Dargah was constructed on the site of a demolished Shiva temple..Notably, yesterday Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju had tweeted a picture of PM Modi giving him a chadar which is to be offered to Ajmer Sharif Dargah on PM's behalf, a tradition which has been followed by past PMs."PM Narendra Modi ji presented the Chadar that would be offered on his behalf at the Ajmer Sharif Dargah on the Urs of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti. This gesture reflects his deep respect for India’s rich spiritual heritage and the enduring message of harmony and compassion," Rijiju's tweet said. As per Gupta's application, the Central government by sending a Chadar to the 'disputed' structure when a case related to it is pending before the Court, is undermining judicial independence and right to fair trial.."By providing any kind of political legitimacy to the disputed structure under consideration by the Central Government by sending a Chadar, not only the judicial process would be obstructed but also the independence of the court would be vitiated, due to which the entire case would become baseless," the plea asserts.Therefore, Gupta has prayed that no chadar should be offered by the Central government.The Ajmer Dargah is the tomb of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti.As per the suit pending before Court, the roof design at the main entrance gate resembles a Hindu structure, indicating that the site was originally a temple."The materials and the style of these chatrees plaintly betray their Hindu origin. Their excellent surface carving is unfortunately hidden from view of coats of colour and whitewashing, which can showcases its true identity and reality after its removal."
