Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal murder: Accused fiancee Siya Goyal sent to judicial custody for 2 weeks

A magistrate court in Maharashtra on Friday remanded Siya Goyal and her boyfriend Chetan Chaudhary to judicial custody for 14 days in connection with the murder of Goyal's fiancee and Pune based realtor Ketan Agarwal..Judicial magistrate AM Vibhute at Wadgaon Mawal near Pune rejected the application filed by the local police seeking extension of the police custody. .The police requested for a 3-day extension of custody on the ground that more time would be needed to interrogate the accused on the evidence being collected during the ongoing investigation. The 5 grounds raised in the plea were primarily to interrogate the accused over the data ecovered from their mobile phones. The police also stated that they had seized another mobile phone purportedly belonging to Siya..Advocate Vipul Dushing, appearing for Goyal, and advocate Ram Shahane, appearing for Chaudhary, opposed the application.They argued that the accused have already been in custody for a reasonable period and have co-operated with the investigation. The Court refused to extend the police custody and directed that the accused be remanded to judicial custody.Both accused will file for bail in due course. .Meanwhile Dushing moved an application claiming Goyal had been illegally detained by the police. This application was rejected by the magistrate. The police also filed an application on June 27 seeking to conduct a polygraph test on Goyal and Chaudhary. However they did not press that application so far. .Agarwal, a director at his family's firm Success Group, was killed at Lohagad Fort near Maharashtra's Lonavala. The incident was initially registered as an accidental death at the Lonavala Rural Police Station.On a complaint by the family, police initiated a deeper inquiry and examined call records, mobile location data, and CCTV footage from the fort. The footage showed a man in a hoodie and face mask in the June heat, later identified as Goyal’s associate Chaudhary, near the fort’s ticket counter, covertly following the couple during the trek..Five days after Agarwal's death, police arrested Goyal and Chaudhary on June 23, invoking Section 103 (murder) and Section 61 (criminal conspiracy) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. They were remanded to seven-day police custody by the Wadgaon Mawal court on June 23, custody that was extended till July 3. .As per the police, the killing was premeditated. Goyal did not want to get married to Agarwal but did not want to call off the wedding either as it could bring disrepute to the family. Hence, she plotted with Chaudhary to kill Goyal.The investigators also alleged that the accused had made an earlier alleged attempt on Agarwal's life on June 14, which failed.
