The Punjab and Haryana High Court has designated Haryana's Advocate General (AG) Pravindra Singh Chauhan as a Senior Advocate. ."In exercise of the powers conferred under Section 16(2) of the Advocates Act 1961, the High Court of Punjab and Haryana at Chandigarh has been pleased to designate Sh. Pravindra Singh Chauhan, Advocate (Enrolment No.P-2492/1999) as Senior Advocate with effect from the date of notification. The aforesaid designation is subject to the condition that he would conduct 10 'Free Legal Aid' cases pro bono every year," the High Court said in a notification issued on February 18..The development comes about two months after Chauhan was appointed as AG by Haryana government, replacing Senior Advocate Baldev Raj Mahajan. Chauhan completed his LLB Degree from Campus Law Centre, North Campus, Delhi University in 1999. He was earlier was working as an Additional Advocate General for Haryana. .Pertinently, 210 advocates at the High Court applied for senior designation last year. The High Court is yet to culminate the process. Though it had recently announced a schedule for interaction with the applicants, the same has been deferred. "The Court interaction of the applicants for designation as Senior Advocates, scheduled to be conducted from 24.02.2025 to 07.03.2025 as per Notice No.04/SPL.XXII.D.3(SAS) dated 19.02.2025, published on the official website of this High Court on 19.02.2025, is deferred till further orders," the Registrar Rules said in a notice on Friday..[Read Notification]
