Delhi Court issues fresh summons to Deep Sidhu and others in connection with Republic Day violence at Red Fort

Delhi's Tis Hazari District Court on Tuesday issued fresh summons to actor/activist Deep Sidhu and others in the case concerning the violence that occurred at Red Fort on Republic Day this year. .Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Gajendra Singh Nagar also directed Sidhu and other accused persons to appear before the Court through video conferencing on July 12, 2021.The Court passed the order after it was informed that the earlier summons had not been received by a majority of accused..On June 19 this year, the Court had taken note of the the charge sheet in this case and thereafter summoned all accused before it on June 29.Despite the summons, only one accused, Harjot Singh, appeared before the Court today. Others stated that they hadn't yet been notified or served a copy of the summons yet..Currently out on bail, Sidhu was arrested on February 9 for commission of offences under a host of Sections under the Indian Penal Code, Sections 25/27/54/59 of the Arms Act, and Section 3 of the Prevention of Destruction of Public Property Act in connection with the tractor rally violence.As per the prosecution, Sidhu was the main conspirator behind the violence at Red Fort. Relying on a series of interviews given by Sidhu, the prosecution said that his intention was to create violence and disrespect the national flag. The police apprehended that if he is released on bail, Sidhu would destroy evidence.As per Sidhu, he was not even present at the Red Fort when the violence took place.
