Resolution passed by West Bengal Bar Council to extend financial aid to lawyers in need during COVID-19 Lockdown, Calcutta HC informed

The Calcutta High Court was informed on Thursday that the State Bar Council has decided to extend financial aid to those lawyers in need amid the COVID-19 lockdown.

The submission was made in affidavit filed by the State Bar Council in a letter petition pending before the High Court on the issue.

As recorded in an order passed by Chief Justice Thottathil B Radhakrishnan and Justice Arjit Banerjee,

"It appears from the Bar Council’s affidavit-in-opposition that the Council has taken a resolution to make available financial assistance to those learned lawyers who are in extreme need thereof."

The Court proceeded to opine that this decision may be implemented without prejudice to the rights and contentions of the parties in the writ petition and subject to further orders that may be passed.

With this observation, the Court proceeded to adjourn the matter to be taken up next week, on April 30.
