Delhi Lawyers strike enters day 4

The strike by lawyers of the district courts in Delhi entered day four. The lawyers have been on strike since December 9 protesting against the delay in the enhancement of pecuniary jurisdiction of trial courts from Rs. 20 lakhs to Rs. 2 crore. The Bill bringing an amendment to effectuate the same has not found mention in the ongoing winter session of the Parliament prompting this action by the lawyers.

Meanwhile, @bitingfriends tweeted that the Chief Justice of India met the heads of the Bar Associations and requested them to stop the indefinite strike.

First sitting of Social Justice Bench in Supreme Court

The Social Justice Bench constituted to hear cases pertaining to “social justice” matters began sitting from today. The Division Bench comprising Justice Madan B Lokur and Justice UU Lalit would be sitting on every Friday at 2 pm. It will take up fresh matters apart from dealing with pending matters.
