Mukul Rohatgi appears for Sahara in SEBI Sahara case in Supreme Court

After stepping down from the post of Attorney General, Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi is already making his presence felt in the Supreme Court of India. And he has taken upon himself the herculean task of defending the indefensible – Sahara in the SEBI-Sahara case..He appeared in the high profile case yesterday for one of the Sahara companies – Sahara Housing..The SEBI-Sahara case is being heard by a Bench of Justices Dipak Misra, Ranjan Gogoi and AK Sikri..The Sahara case has proved to be a tough nut to crack with a number of Senior lawyers appearing for Subrata Roy and his companies and subsequently returning the brief..In yesterday’s hearing, the Supreme Court declined the request for extension of time to Subrata Roy for depositing the installment of Rs. 525 crore, which is to be paid by July 15..The Bench seemed disinclined to grant any relief sought by the contemnor..“I will substitute the cheque for another, please give me time till 15 Sept”, Kapil Sibal appearing for Roy prayed before the Court..Sibal further argued that “I am not allowed to do business, I have an embargo by the court. There are no borrowers after the demonetisation. I am seeking indulgence”..The Bench was, however, unmoved by his appeals and requests and responded by saying,.“Not inclined to allow any indulgence. We’re inclined on execution.”.The Court said that the next installment of Rs. 525 crore has to be honoured by Roy failing which he will have to face consequences.
