Haryana government has appointed Senior Advocate Pawan Kumar Mutneja as its new Advocate General.
The post fell vacant this week after Senior Advocate Pravindra Singh Chauhan, who had been State's top law officer since December 2024, was elevated as an additional judge of the High Court. He was administered oath of office on Thursday.
The same day, the State government notified the Governor's decision to appoint Mutneja as new Advocate General with immediate effect.
"In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 165(1) of the Constitution of lndia, the Governor of Haryana is pleased to appoint Sh. Pawan Kumar Mutneja, Senior Advocate, Punjab & Haryana High Court, Chandigarh, as Advocate General for the State of Haryana with immediate effect," the State Administration of Justice Department said in the notification.
Mutneja has been in practice since 1985. He obtained his law degree from University Law College, Rajasthan University, and is an alumnus of Lawrence School, Sanawar.
He served as an Additional Advocate General in Haryana between 1996-1999. He was designated as a senior counsel by the High Court in 2021.
