Bar Council of Delhi had urged legal fraternity to make generous donations to the fund to help their fellow colleagues and their family members.
Pursuant to Bar Council of Delhi's call to the legal fraternity to make generous donations, Senior Advocates Amarjit Singh Chandiok and N Hariharan have contributed Rs 5 lakh each towards the fund to help advocates meet their day-to-day expenses during the period of COVID-19 lockdown.
Reacting to the contrubution, Chairman of Bar Council of Delhi, KC Mittal said,
"In this hour of crisis, it is our responsibility to help our fellow colleagues who are indeed in need of help."
Last week, the Bar Council of Delhi had announced that it would provide assistance to the extent of Rs 5,000 to advocates facing financial difficulties.
The Council had authorized the "Indigent and Disabled Committee of Bar Council of Delhi" to consider requests for grant of financial assistance to advocates in need in Delhi/NCR.
The Council had also urged all Bar Associations, Senior Advocates and senior Bar members to come forward and make generous donations to the fund to help their fellow colleagues and their family members.
Several members of the legal fraternity have come forward to provide financial aid during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Recently, the Judges of the Delhi High Court resolved to donate Rs 10,000 each towards the Prime Minister's Citizen Assitance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund.
Senior Advocate Rakesh Diwvedi has donated Rs 1 core to the Prime Minister Citizens ’Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situation Fund.
