Six Lawyers awarded NISAU India-UK achievers Award

The National Indian Student and Alumni Union, UK (NISAU) recently announced the winners of its India-UK Achiever's awards, which list also features six Indian lawyers for their contributions to the field of law. .The awards are meant to celebrate 75 years of India's independence and India-UK educational ties. 75 young Indian achievers who have studied in the UK were honoured as part of the initiative by NISAU in partnership with the British Council in India and supported by the UK Government Department for International Trade..The list of winners under the "Law" category features the following names:1. Menaka Guruswamy, a Senior Advocate practicing in the Supreme Court of India and who, the NISAU noted, played a significant role in several landmark cases and was featured as one of the TIME 100 most influential people in the world for her work in spearheading the successful, historic battle for LGBTQ rights in India. Guruswamy has been conferred the title of outstanding achiever in the category of "Law" awardees. 2. Arghya Sengupta, Founder and Research Director at national policy think-tank, Vidhi, and author of "Independence and Accountability of the Indian Higher Judiciary."3. Dr. Chintan Chandrachud, who is also a barrister at Brick Court Chambers, London and the author of "The Cases that India Forgot" and "Balanced Constitutionalism: Courts and Legislatures in India and the United Kingdom."4. Gunjan Singh, an Indian attorney specialising in Human Rights law for over eight years and a recipient of the Chevening Scholarship. 5. Krishna Omkar, a corporate lawyer by background, who the NISAU noted has quarterbacked some of the most complex and high-value M&A deals of recent years, spanning 60+ jurisdictions and USD $200 billion+ in total value.6. Shreeyash Uday Lalit, an advocate practising in the Supreme Court of India, various High Courts and other fora. Following his LLB education from Delhi University, he went on to complete his LLM from the University of Cambridge in 2017-18 as a Tata Trust, Narottam Sekhsaria, Trust and Pegasus Scholar..The Achievers Honours seek to recognise and celebrate the contributions made by the UK's Indian alumni and students in their fields and society. The award ceremony was held in central London on the eve of India's Republic Day.
