No more Special Bench for Coal Scam case? What CJI Ranjan Gogoi hinted

Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi today remarked that the Special Bench hearing the Coal Scam case and monitoring the trial regarding the same, has been disbanded..“No more coal or green benches now. All kinds of cases will go to all Benches”, said CJI Ranjan Gogoi, when a case relating to the Coal Scam came up for hearing..The trial in the Coal Scam case was being monitored by a dedicated Bench of the Supreme Court since 2013. The Special Public Prosecutor in the matter was appointed by the Supreme Court..Back in September 2014, less than a month after a judgment declaring all coal block allocations as illegal, the Supreme Court had cancelled 214 coal block allocations made since 1993..The last Coal Bench was presided by Justice AK Sikri, who retired last month..Last year, a Bench headed by Justice Gogoi took objection to the request by the Central government to transfer a case to the Bench hearing the Coal Scam matter..With the CJI’s statement today, will the monitoring of the trial by a dedicated Bench of the Supreme Court come to an end?
