Sukesh Chandrashekhar played fraud upon court, should be charged with perjury: ED to Supreme Court

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has opposed the plea filed by conman Sukash Chandrashekhar before the Supreme Court to be shifted out of Tihar..The ED which has now sought to implead itself in the case has submitted that Sukash Chandrashekhar has no threat to life in Tihar jail as was claimed by him and he is manufacturing falsehood to get himself shifted out of Tihar jail.He would, therefore, be liable for perjury, it was contended."The petitioner is manufacturing falsehood for reasons to shift out of Tihar jail. Rather the conduct of the petitioner in distorting and obfuscating documents while filing them before the Supreme Court is itself a serious offence making the petitioner guilty of the offence of perjury," the impleadment application said. Earlier a vacation bench of Justices AS Bopanna and Vikram Nath had transferred Chandrashekhar out of Tihar jail after it was alleged that he was facing threats from Tihar officials."Without entering into the rival contentions, it would be appropriate to transfer the Petitioners to some other jail so to allay the apprehension of all concerned," the order stated.However, the ED has told the Supreme Court that "there has been no assault against the petitioner" and medical examination revealed that no fresh external injury was inflicted upon him.."A handwritten letter was sent to the Harinagar Station House Officer on May alleging an assault which took place on May 13. However, the MLC conducted by Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital on May 14 recorded that no fresh external injury was seen at the time of examination. Thus it proves the falsehood of the entire basis of the present petition," the ED contended.The petitioner has omitted this medical finding in the annexure submitted and thus has deliberately attempted to mislead the court and has played a fraud upon it, the agency further submitted..It was also pointed out that Chandrashekhar and his wife are being housed in separate prisoners which is under continuous CCTV surveillance. Chandrashekhar was believed to have been leading a lavish life inside Tihar jail where he has been lodged after being arrested for cheating and extortion besides money laundering charges. The top court will hear the plea by ED at 2 pm today.
