The Supreme Court Collegium on Tuesday recommended the elevation of advocate Pranav Shailesh Trivedi as a judge of the Gujarat High Court..The Collegium had in March last year sent back the proposal for his elevation to the High Court's Chief Justice, for reconsideration at an appropriate stage. The said move has now been recalled in light of the Union Department of Justice's (DoJ) positive reference on advocate Trivedi's file.As per the resolution uploaded on the apex court's official website, the Collegium on January 9 endorsed the DoJ's remarks.The Gujarat High Court Collegium had unanimously recommended advocate Trivedi's name for elevation on September 26, 2022.The State Chief Minister and the Governor of the State of Gujarat concurred with the same, but the top court had differed. But after the DoJ endorsed Trivedi's candidature, the Collegium on Tuesday gave green light to the same. "The Department of Justice has referred back the file for positive consideration of the above proposal. We have reconsidered our earlier recommendation dated 2 March 2023 in light of the reasons recorded by the Department of Justice in the file. We made further enquiries to come to a definite conclusion as to his suitability," the Collegium resolution explained. Advocate Trivedi enrolled with the State Bar Council in 2000 and has 23 years of practice at the High Court. The resolution states that his area of practice includes taxation, civil, criminal, constitutional, labour, company and service cases.Further, he qualifies in age and income criteria and has 68 reported judgments in matters argued by him. .[Read Resolution]
