Supreme Court Collegium recommends Justice MC Tripathi as Chief Justice of Bombay High Court

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of Allahabad High Court Justice Mahesh Chandra Tripathi as the next Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court.

The recommendation was made at a Collegium meeting held on August 6.

If approved by the Central government, Justice Tripathi will be the 38th Chief Justice of the High Court and the second Chief Justice from Allahabad.

Justice Tripathi graduated in law from Lucknow University in 1990. He enrolled as an advocate on January 11, 1992.

His practice was mainly on the civil side. He served as the additional chief standing counsel for the State of Uttar Pradesh since October 2007.

He also appeared as counsel for the Kanpur Development Authority, Kanpur Nagar Nigam, UP Food and Essential Commodities Corporation, Agra Development Authority, Moradabad Development Authority and Kumaun University.

Justice Tripathi was elevated as an additional judge of the High Court on September 27, 2013. He was made a permanent judge on April 10, 2015.

He is the second senior most judge at the High Court and has presided over the High Court's principal bench at Allahabad.

Presently, Justice Ravindra Ghuge is the acting Chief Justice of Bombay High Court.

He has been recommended for elevation as Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court.
