Supreme Court dismisses review petition of Nirbhaya death row convict Pawar Kumar Gupta

Less than twenty hours before he was scheduled to be hanged, Nirbhaya death row convict Pawar Kumar Gupta's review petition has been dismissed by the Supreme Court..The review was dismissed by a three-judge Bench of Justices R Banumathi, Ashok Bhushan, and AS Bopanna..The order passed today states,."We have perused the Review Petition and the connected papers carefully and are convinced that the order, of which review has been sought, does not suffer from any error apparent warranting its reconsideration."Order passed by Supreme Court.On January 20, the Court had dismissed the plea filed by Pawan Kumar Gupta claiming that he was a juvenile at the time when he committed the 2012 Delhi gang rape.While dismissing this plea, the Court had said that while the law does provide for a plea of juvenility to be raised at any stage, the same provision cannot be used to re-agitate the issue repeatedly, especially when the issue has been decided on by all courts up to the Supreme Court.Pawar Kumar Gupta had filed a review petition against this decision..Gupta's initial plea before the Supreme Court was filed after a Delhi court issued a fresh warrant on January 17 for the execution of the four convicts in the Nirbhaya rape case.
