The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to a man accused of attacking Bar Council of India (BCI) Co-Chairman and Senior Advocate YR Sadasiva Reddy inside his chamber in Bengaluru.
A Bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta noted that the accused had already spent more than one year in jail and ordered his release subject to stringent conditions being imposed by the trial court.
The case concerns an incident that took place on April 16, 2025, when Senior Advocate Reddy was allegedly assaulted inside his chamber in Bengaluru by unidentified persons.
The assailants are reported to have entered the premises and attacked the senior lawyer with iron rods. The assault reportedly took place in the presence of his junior advocate.
Reddy sustained multiple fractures to his right forearm, left elbow and leg in the attack.
Following the incident, the Bar Council of India issued a public statement condemning the assault as a targeted attempt to intimidate the legal fraternity and called for an immediate investigation into the incident.
