In what could be a first of its kind initiative, Supreme Court judge Justice Sanjay Karol recently appointed a bevy of young lawyers as Amici Curiae in transfer petitions..The responsibility of cultivating future legal professionals lies on the shoulders of judges, Justice Karol said explaining his decision. "The responsibility to cultivate the future lies on our shoulders and that we should always be conscious of it," he said.He took the decision on October 10 when hearing around 10 matters, mostly transfer petitions and bail applications. In many of the transfer petitions where the wife or husband could not be represented despite service of notice, Justice Karol directed that the youngest of the lawyers sitting in the courtroom be appointed as amicus curiae. .Orders to that effect were passed in six to seven cases. "I have always felt promoting junior members of the bar and cultivating habits of being busy in themselves," he stated..The cases were then passed over and Amici Curiae appointed in various matters were asked to go through the briefs and be prepared. .Amongst the youngest lawyers appointed as Amici Curiae was Advocate Pritthish Roy who has been practicing as a lawyer for three months now.
