What Supreme Court held on NHAI projects initiated before 2020 environmental clearance relaxation was struck down

The Court had recently struck down a clause of a COVID-era notification that did away with the need to secure prior environmental clearance for the extraction of soil for linear projects such as roads, pipelines, etc.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday assured the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) that it need not halt projects where work orders were issued before the striking down of a COVID-era notification which relaxed the requirement for getting environment clearance (EC) in certain projects.
