Supreme Court stays FIR against BJP Bengal leader Kabir Shankar Bose

The Supreme Court today stayed the FIR against West Bengal BJP leader Kabir Shankar Bose allegedly registered owing to his personal rivalry with Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerji..The Bench of Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Dinesh Maheshwari and Hrishikesh Roy also issued notice to the State of West Bengal and the West Bengal Police after perusing a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) report filed in the matter..The apex court had earlier asked the Centre to place on record the special incident report filed by CISF on an alleged scuffle between Trinamool Congress workers and the security staff of Kabir Shankar Bose. The Bench had also asked the Centre to file in a sealed cover the movement logbook of the leader pertaining to the day of the incident..In his plea before the Supreme Court seeking quashing of the FIR against him, Bose stated,"There is wreaking of political vengeance and specific targeting of the Petitioner by the State Government of West Bengal, Trinamool Congress and Kalyan Bannerji, a sitting TMC MP due to the political and personal rivalry and is praying that this Court safeguard the Petitioner from the threats to his life and liberty which he faces from the State Government of West Bengal; Trinamool Congress and Kalyan Bannerji.".Bose claimed that on December 6 last year, he and his CISF detail came under heavy attack and sloganeering under the leadership of one Santosh Kumar Singh alias Pappu Singh just outside his residence at around 8 pm. As per protocol, the CISF personnel immediately took Bose to a secure location..The petition claims that till 2 am, the entire building was under siege by over 200 TMC hooligans led by Kalyan Banerji, the sitting Member of Parliament of the area. These actions were supported actively by the State Police, Bose has claimed.Early that morning, the West Bengal Police completely sealed off the building and prevented his exit, citing law and order issues. When he later went to the police station, Bose claims that officers were repeatedly saying that Kalyan Banerji was putting tremendous pressure on them to immediately arrest him. Thus, he was arrested while at the police station..Bose and five other BJP leaders had filed a petition in the Supreme Court alleging a witch-hunt by the West Bengal Police at the behest of the ruling Trinamool Congress Party.
