[Sushant Singh Rajput case] No reason to suspect anything but suicide based on initial family statements: Mumbai Police to SC

The Mumbai police has informed the Supreme Court that all the initial statements by Sushant Singh Rajput's family recorded by the State police in connection with his June 14 death do not indicate any suspicion on the cause of death apart from suicide. .In a detailed affidavit before the top Court, the police has stated that none of the initial statements by Rajput's family indicated that the cause of death was anything other than suicide. Later, statements were made before the Bihar police, which reveal that they are "tainted" and "after-thoughts.".A Justice Hrishikesh Roy led bench of the top Court on August 5 had asked the Mumbai police to submit the status of investigation before the Court. The Bench is hearing a petition filed by actor Rhea Chakraborty to transfer the FIR registered against her in relation to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput from Patna to Mumbai. .Solicitor-General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the CBI, had informed the Court that it had accepted the request of the Bihar government to conduct a CBI probe into the case. .Soon, thereafter, a notification was released stating that the CBI had officially taken over the case. An FIR was also registered against Rhea Chakraborty and her family by the CBI..However, the Mumbai police has stated that the "indecent haste" shown by the central agency "speaks for itself regarding the bonafide of all involved in this exercise.".The Mumbai police avers that pending the adjudication of the transfer plea, the CBI ought not to have gone ahead and registered the FIR or constitued a committee for conducting the investigation.."It ought to have waited for the final decision in the transfer petition pending in Supreme Court," reads the affidavit. .The Mumbai police submits that initially, it registered a case for inquest under Section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) to ascertain the cause of unnatural death. After the inquest, another case was registered under Section 175, CrPC to ascertain the cause of death of Rajput..On the point of jurisdiction, Mumbai police states that even the FIR registered in Bihar acknowledges that Sushant was not allowed to visit Patna and meet his family. While so, even the offence of wrongful restraint would have occurred in Mumbai..The Patna FIR further mentioned that Rhea siphoned off the late actor's money. On this point as well, the Mumbail police asserts that the offense of theft occurred in Mumbai..Terming the probe by the Bihar police as "legally unsustainable", the Mumbai police states that "two simultaneous agencies" cannot investigate the same incident and lead to conflicting results.
