The Telangana High Court has announced the creation of a COVID-19 fund to insure daily wage, outsourced, contract and contingent workers and masalchis employed in the High Court and subordinate courts.

Judges, Registrars, and Judicial Officers have contributed towards the fund, states a press note issued by the High Court. The press note states that the sums collected have been used to take insurance policies for the workers.

An amount of Rs 24,24,203 has been raised for the fund as on August 13, it has been informed.

The sum has been used to insure the workers for an amount of Rs 2,50,000, in a scheme with the Oriental Insurance Company called Corona Kavach Policy.

2,119 workers have been insured by this policy for 9.5 months. The Oriental Insurance Company has, accordingly, issued individual Corona Kavach policies on August 15 covering these employees.

The decision to insure these categories of workers was taken pursuant to a Full-Bench Virtual Meeting of the High Court Judges.
