The Central Government has notified the appointment of three additional judges to the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
As per the notification issued on Thursday, advocates Suvir Sehgal, Girish Agnihotri and Alka Sarin have been appointed as additional judges of the High Court for a two year term. The notification states,
“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint S/Shri (i) Suvir Sehgal, (ii) Girish Agnihotri and (iii) Smt. Alka Sarin, to be Additional Judges of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, in the order of seniority, for a period of two years with effect from the date they assume charge of their respective offices.”
The appointment has been made pursuant to a Supreme Court Collegium recommendation made in July this year.
Along with the above nominees, the Collegium had also proposed that advocates Jasgurpreet Singh Puri and Kamal Sehgal be elevated to the High Court Bench. However, Thursday’s appointment notification is silent as regards these two names.
