TMC moves Calcutta High Court against speaker's decision to recognise Ritabrata Banerjee as leader of opposition

Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) has approached the Calcutta High Court challenging the West Bengal speaker's decision to appoint rebel leader Ritabrata Banerjee as the leader of opposition (LoP) in the State assembly.

Mamata Banerjee had recommended appointment of Sovandeb Chatterjee as the LOP but the speaker recognised the Ritabrata who showed support of 58 MLAs.

According to PTI, the petition by TMC was mentioned before Justice Krishna Rao who agreed to list it for hearing on June 11.

TMC had lost the recent assembly elections in the State and was reduced to 80 MLAs with the BJP winning 207 seats.
