True strength of court lies in exceptional Bar: Justice K Babu bids farewell to Kerala High Court

The true strength of the Kerala High Court in its exceptionally efficient bar, Justice K Babu said on Friday in his retirement speech.

Justice Babu highlighted the crucial role of lawyers in the functioning of courts and expressed his satisfaction with the younger generation of lawyers and their contribution to the profession.

"The true strength of our High Court lies in its efficient and erudite Bar. It is heartening to see a new generation of promising young lawyers, including many accomplished women, who enrich its vitality. They deserve our continued encouragement support and protection," Justice Babu said.

He was speaking at the farewell reference held at the High Court in his honour.

Justice Babu is slated to demit office on May 8 and Friday was his last working day before the High Court's summer vacation. The Court will now reopen on May 18.

Justice Babu was born on May 8, 1964, in Kollam. He obtained a post-graduate degree in Economics from the University of Kerala followed by a law degree from Government Law College at Thiruvananthapuram and an LLM from Mahatma Gandhi University.

He enrolled as an advocate in 1994 and began practice at Kottarakara and Kollam.

He later joined the Kerala Higher Judicial Service as a District and Sessions Judge in 2009.

He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Kerala High Court on February 25, 2021 and was later elevated as a Permanent Judge with effect from June 6, 2022.

At his farewell function, Justice Babu reflected on the personal and professional influences that shaped his legal journey.

He acknowledged the role of his mentors and the cooperation from the members of the Bar, the Bench as well as the High Court Registry, in helping him discharge his duties efficiently

The farewell function was attended by Kerala High Court Chief Justice Soumen Sen, Advocate General Gopalakrishna Kurup K, Additional Solicitor General P Sreekumar and the President of the Kerala High Court Advocates' Association (KHCAA) Peeyus A Kottam, among others.
