Venture Intelligence 2016: AZB, Cyril Amarchand top PE, M&A tables

Venture Intelligence recently released its legal advisors league tables for Private Equity and M&A transactions in 2016, with AZB & Partners taking the top spot in PE deals and Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas topping the M&A tables. The league tables are updated till July 2016.

PE Deals

Deal Value

Apart from leading in terms of deal value, AZB also has the most number of PE deals this years, with 30 deals valued at over $3.3 billion. Cyril Amarchand is second, with 18 deals at $2.5 billion, followed by Shardul Amarchand with 21 deals valued at $2.19 billion.

Platinum Partners trumped some bigger law firms to fourth place with 3 deals valued at $1.52 billion. Khaitan & Co finds itself in seventh position, with 20 deals at $877 million. Three foreign law firms – Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer, Simpson Thacher & Bartlett and Shearman & Sterling – have also made it to the list. Samvad Partners, Trilegal and BMR Legal complete the top ten.

Deal Count

BMR and Shardul Amarchand follow AZB at the top, with 21 deals each, while Khaitan follows with 20. Samvad Parnters has 19, while Cyril Amarchand and NovoJuris are tied with 18 deals each. Trilegal and JSA have 15 and 13 deals respectively.

M&A Deals

Deal Value

Cyril Amarchand tops the M&A tables, with 19 deals valued at $9.36 billion. AZB is not far away in second place, with 26 deals at $9.33 billion. The top two firms are some distance away from Shardul Amarchand in third, with 17 deals at over $5.1 billion.

Majmudar & Partners finds itself in fourth with 2 deals at $3.11 billion, while Khaitan is in eighth, at 26 deals worth over $1.52 billion. Simpson Thacher & Bartlett is the only foreign firm in the top ten.

Deal Count

AZB and Khaitan jointly top the M&A tables in terms of deal count, with 26 deals each. Cyril Amarchand follows with 19, Shardul Amarchand with 17 and JSA has 15 deals.
