The Central government has extended the tenure of Justice Virendra Kumar II as Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court for another year.

On November 15, 2016, Justice Kumar was appointed as an additional judge of the High Court. His term was due to end on November 14, 2018.

Justice Kumar’s name had featured in a list of ten judges recommended by the High Court to be made permanent judges. However, the Collegium expressed reservations on whether his appointment should be made permanent right away, opining that,

We are of the view that the working of Mr. Justice Virendra Kumar-II as Additional Judge needs to be observed for some more time.”

Accordingly, a government notification issued yesterday intimates that Justice Kumar has been appointed to serve as Additional Judge for another year, starting November 15, 2018.

The notification states,

In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (1) of article 224 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Virendra Kumar II, to be an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court, for a period of one year with effect from 15th November, 2018.”
