The virtual Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Chattishgarh High Court Chief Justice, Justice Ramachandra Menon on Saturday.
In an effort to dispose of pending cases by following precautionary measures amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, an e-Lok Adalat was organized in Chhattisgarh on Saturday where hearings were conducted via video conferencing.
As per a press release, this is the first time in the country that a Lok Adalat was conducted virtually.
The e-Lok Adalat was inaugurated at 10.30 am on Saturday by the Chief Justice of Chhattisgarh High Court, PR Ramachandra Menon in the video-conferencing room of the Court. The ceremony was live streamed as well.

Over 3,000 cases were listed for hearing in over 200 benches at various districts, including the High Court. On a commendable note, the e-Lok Adalat was able to settle a total number of 2,270 cases.
The total settlement amount is approximately Rs 43,39,00,000.
In his presidential address during the inaugural ceremony, Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra, the executive chairman of Chhattisgarh State Legal Services Authority stated that the COVID-19 outbreak had severely hit the functioning of judiciary in the State because of which lawyers and affected parties were also facing a financial crisis.
Justice Mishra further opined that the move to hold Lok Adalat on a digital platform will bring relief to lawyers and aggrieved parties.
Family disputes, accident claims and cheque bounce cases that can be settled through mutual consent are often resolved by Lok Adalat, Justice Mishra further added.
