The Supreme Court Bench headed by Justice UU Lalit began proceedings at 9:30 am today, in a break from the norm to usually start hearings at 10:30 am.

The three-judge Bench which also comprised Justices S Ravindra Bhat and Sudhanshu Dhulia had 31 cases listed before it.

During the hearing, when the Bar commended the early sitting, Justice Lalit responded,

"Our children go to school early, then why can't we also hold proceedings at 9:30?"

The sitting hours at the Supreme Court are from 10:30 am to 4 pm, with a one-hour lunch break from 1 pm to 2 pm.

Many a time, benches sit beyond 4 pm to complete the board.
