

The Karnataka Chapter of Increasing Diversity by Increasing Access to Legal Education (IDIA) is conducting the 2nd Annual Essay Writing Competition in collaboration with Khaitan & Co.
IDIA is a non-profit, student-run movement that aims to empower underprivileged and marginalised children through legal education.
The 2nd Annual Essay Competition is a part of its fundraising activities.
All undergraduate law students, in both Integrated law degrees (5-Years) and standalone law degrees (3-Years) are eligible to participate in the Competition.
1st Place: Internship opportunity with Khaitan & Co, along with a ₹5000 Cash Prize and a Certificate.
2nd Place: ₹3000 Cash Prize along with a Certificate.
Top 5 Entries overall: Certificates of Merit.
Participants can write on any topic that substantially deals with any area of commercial and corporate law.
These areas of law may include but are not limited to competition law, contract law, corporate governance, insolvency law, insurance law, and securities law.
Some suggestive topics are:
Intersection of data privacy and competition law in India
SEBI and fin-influencer regulation
Revisiting the corporate purpose debate in India
Fiduciary duty of promoters in India
Regulating competition in the digital sphere
Note: Submissions that fall outside of this ambit will be rejected.
Submission guidelines
All essays must comply with the following requirements before submission:
Word count: 5000-7000 words, exclusive of footnotes.
Number of authors: Both single-authored pieces and co-authored pieces with 2 co-authors are allowed.
Citation style: 4th Edition of OSCOLA
Font: Times New Roman; Font Size: 12
Line spacing: 1.5
Anonymity: The essay should not have any mention of names, email, university, or any other identifying details. Submissions containing identifying details will be automatically rejected.
Registration and submission deadlines
Registrations are open from May 1, 2026 and will remain open until June 15, 2026.
The last date to submit is June 15, 2026.
Registration fees
The registration fee for a single-authored piece is ₹250, and the registration fee for a co-authored piece is ₹400.
