India's arbitration landscape has expanded rapidly, with institutional caseloads rising, cross-border enforcement becoming routine, and courts sharpening the boundaries of judicial intervention. Clients expect their counsel to conduct arbitrations independently, from drafting the arbitration clause and framing pleadings to examining witnesses and enforcing awards across jurisdictions. Day-one readiness in arbitration practice is no longer aspirational; it is expected.

To address this, National Law University, Delhi (NLU Delhi), through its Centre for Regulatory Studies (CRS), has partnered with Mentblue to launch a Certificate Course on Arbitration Law & Practice: Proceedings, Procedure and Related Litigation, part of The Practice Series, a joint initiative designed to take participants through arbitration law the way it is actually practised inside Tier 1 dispute resolution teams.

Why This Course?

  • Practitioner-led faculty. Partners and senior practitioners from Trilegal, CMS IndusLaw, Saraf & Partners, S&R Associates, and Luthra & Luthra Law Offices. The lawyers who draft arbitration agreements, argue interim applications, examine witnesses, and enforce awards for a living, not just teach about them.

  • End-to-end arbitration lifecycle. From the arbitration agreement to award enforcement, taught in the sequence a real dispute actually unfolds.

  • Applied drafting assignments. Two comprehensive assignments built around real Indian arbitration disputes, spanning the full arbitration lifecycle, not sanitised hypotheticals.

  • Document library. Curated precedents, arbitration notices, pleadings, interim applications, and award drafts.

  • NLU Delhi certification. The course is supervised by the Centre for Regulatory Studies, NLU Delhi, and the certificate is issued by the University.

  • Flexible format. Weekend-only live sessions with six-month recording access, built for law students and working professionals alike.

What Will You Learn?

Module 1: Foundations & the Arbitration Agreement. Foundations of arbitration and the Indian legal framework, the arbitration agreement (drafting, validity and complexities), and institutional vs. ad hoc arbitration (frameworks, rules and initiating proceedings).

Module 2: Jurisdiction, Constitution & Interim Measures. Jurisdiction, arbitrability and appointment of arbitrators; interim measures under Section 9 and Section 17; emergency arbitration and international institutional practice; and a mid-course assignment workshop.

Module 3: Procedure, Evidence & Advocacy. Pleadings and framing the case, evidence in arbitration, managing arbitral proceedings (procedure, directions and court assistance), and oral advocacy and examination of witnesses.

Module 4: Awards, Challenge & Enforcement. The arbitral award (requirements, costs and post-award applications), challenging awards under Section 34 and appellate proceedings, enforcement of awards (domestic and cross-border), and a final assignment workshop with a career roadmap and ADR landscape session.
