

The Recruitment Coordination Committee (RCC), National Law University Odisha (NLUO) hosted a lecture series featuring Delhi High Court Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, and Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas (SAM), Partner, Tanavi Mohanty.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma's lecture titled 'Journey to the Bench: Evolution from Advocacy to Adjudication' focused on her journey, tracing her professional milestones, challenges, and values that shaped her judicial career.
The session also featured questions posed by moderators and the audience in attendance. Justice Sharma emphasised the importance of compassion while sitting on the bench and delivering judgements. While highlighting how empathy and sensitivity remain integral to judicial decision-making, she also underlined the importance of the trial court stage, describing it as the foundational stage of a case where minute details are examined thoroughly. She stressed the need for judges to exercise utmost diligence at this stage.
Further, she spoke about the emotional labour involved in judicial work, particularly in light of the heavy daily caseload. Justice Sharma acknowledged the collective efforts of the entire team that supports a judge in carrying out these responsibilities.
Tanavi Mohanty's lecture was titled 'First Year in Corporate Law Practice: Navigating the Path from Student to Professional'. The session provided students with a unique opportunity to engage directly with a distinguished professional through an interactive discussion designed to offer practical insights into beginning a career in corporate law.
The guest lecture by Tanavi Mohanty was primarily directed towards fourth and fifth-year students. The session was divided into two segments, the first focused on the initial year of practice in corporate law, and the second addressed the transition from being a student to becoming a legal professional.
The discussion revolved around the essential skill sets required for beginners in corporate firms and the importance of professional conduct in workplace settings.
Mohanty emphasised how attention to minute details makes a significant difference during the early years of practice and how all tasks should be approached with equal seriousness.
