The School of Law, SGT University in collaboration with SGT University Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre (SADRC) and Centre for Intellectual Property Rights Studies (CIPRS) is organising a four-week online Certificate Course on Mediation in Intellectual Property Rights, themed Where Innovation Meets Resolution, to be held over four weekend sessions on November 14, 21, 28 and 29 2026.

About the Course

Ideas are today’s most valuable assets, and among the most contested.

IP disputes are technical, cross-border and commercially sensitive, while litigation is slow, costly and public. Mediation offers a better path: confidential, expert-led and focused on preserving the partnerships that innovation needs.

India is moving decisively in this direction. The Mediation Act, 2023, mandatory pre-institution mediation under Section 12A of the Commercial Courts Act, 2015, and the IP Division of the Delhi High Court have placed mediation at the centre of IP dispute resolution. Globally, the WIPO Arbitration and Mediation Center continues to set the benchmark.

This four-week course gives participants the law, the strategy and the hands-on skill to mediate IP disputes, from licensing deadlocks and trademark conflicts to patent and technology-transfer disputes.

Course Objectives

  • Build a clear understanding of the legal framework for mediating IP disputes in India and abroad

  • Explain why IP disputes suit mediation, and when they do not

  • Develop negotiation and mediation strategies tailored to IP and commercial interests

  • Train participants to draft enforceable, IP- specific settlement agreements
