Over the last three years, we have built a network of Campus Ambassadors across more than fifty law schools all over India. These law students provide us with information on campus events and activities, as well as share legal articles.

This series of interviews is meant to turn the spotlight on these hardworking and dedicated individuals.

In this edition, we speak with Jahnavi Seethamraju, a second-year law student at the Symbiosis Law School, Pune.

(Edited excerpts)

Why did you choose to study law?

It dates back to sixth grade when an introduction to the subject of civics kindled my interest in the Law. I was intrigued by the nexus that the Law has with people and society. It initially began with a vision to become a parliamentarian, but my choice of career kept oscillating from justiceship, to a solicitor, to a litigator and so on. What remained unabated was my love for the Law.

With time, I noticed that I had an intellectual appetite to satisfy. I started reading non-fiction books and kept myself abreast with legal news. I also requested and attended seminars and symposiums at universities as a school student. I must admit there were times when I could not comprehend what was being said in those seminars, but that did not discourage my willingness to learn. I consider pursuing law to be a bridge between what I have done in the past and what I plan to do in the future.

What made you apply for the Campus Ambassador post at Bar & Bench?

Bar & Bench is a premier online platform for legal news. I have been following their columns for a long time now. I even remember going through their posts for a quick revision before my entrance exams. When I stumbled upon this opportunity, I did not give it a second thought. The idea of working in association with Bar & Bench and meeting like minded peers encouraged me to pursue this opportunity.

What are your plans after completing law?

As a second-year student, I am still exploring my options. There are days when I am more inclined towards a corporate practice, and on the other days, towards litigation. Lately, I have developed a profound interest in Commercial Law. If I choose corporate practice, I wish to either become a trainee solicitor or work for a law firm in India. On the other hand, If I choose litigation, I wish to pursue academia along with my practice.
