The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade - Intellectual Property Rights (DPIIT - IPR) in collaboration with the Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur (HNLU) Centre for Innovation and Intellectual Property (IP) Laws recently held a virtual International Conference on 'Music and IP: Art, Innovation & Business' on the occasion of World IP Day, April 26.
The inaugural ceremony had Professor of Law, Delhi University, Prof Sunanda Bharti as the Chief Guest, and Intellectual Property and Business Attorney, Armenia, Annie Davtian as the Guest of Honour.
Registrar, HNLU, Dr Deepak Kumar Srivastava delivered the welcome address in the inaugural ceremony.
DPIIT-IPR Chair Professor and Convener of the Conference, Dr Ankit Singh presented the Report and presented the vote of thanks in the inaugural ceremony.
The valedictory ceremony had Managing Partner, Anand & Anand, Pravin Anand as the Chief Guest; City St George's University of London, Prof Enrico Bonadio, as the keynote speaker; and Legal Operations Lead, Samsarah Instatech, Advocate Heena Baig as the Guest of Honour.
Dean, Postgraduate Studies, HNLU, Prof Yogendra Srivastava delivered the welcome address in the valedictory ceremony. Assistant Professor, HNLU, Garima Panwar delivered the vote of thanks.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof VC Vivekanandan delivered the opening remarks through a digital message for both the inaugural and valedictory ceremonies.
The conference had participants from India and abroad. A total of 28 quality paper presentations were made by scholars, practitioners, researchers, and students from across the globe.
The presentations explored a wide range of topics ranging from copyright licensing in the streaming era, AI-generated music, authorship dilemmas, parallel importation of musical works, the economics of royalty models, and the blockchain's impact on the music industry.
Panel sessions were chaired by distinguished experts in the field of IP law from academia and the industry from India and abroad. Their feedback and inputs enriched the academic discourse and ensured productive dialogue among presenters and attendees.
The conference was not just an academic event, but also a celebration of the spirit of music, the creativity of human expression, and the silent but powerful architecture of intellectual property that protects and propels it.
