Described as a compassionate judge whose heart bled for common man, Justice Madan Lokur spent six years at the Supreme Court before retiring in December 2018.

Justice Lokur has been a vocal critic of the inefficiencies in the judicial system, both during and after his tenure at the Apex Court. He was one of the four judges who were part of the unprecedented press conference of January 2018 that was lauded and criticised in equal measure.

In this interview with Bar & Bench, Justice Lokur talks about his career as a lawyer and a judge, the issues that continue to plague the judiciary, how the judiciary doesn't "market" itself for young law graduates, and more.
