Allen & Overy has recently announced 16 partner promotions across offices including that of Capital Markets lawyer Amit Singh in Hong Kong. Amit had joined the Hong Kong office in 2011.

Amit, who is qualified to practice in England & Wales, New York and India, did law from Oxford University in 1998 as a Chevening Scholar. He went to London after completing his BA in English literature from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University in 1996.

Thereafter, he returned to India in 1998 to do his one-year apprenticeship to qualify as an Indian lawyer. “This was scrapped by the Supreme Court of India even before I completed it,” says Amit, “and therefore I was qualified to practice since the day I joined my apprenticeship in 1998 after which I went back to London.”

He initially worked with Freshfields in London for about two and a half years before heading to New York University where he did a Masters in Corporate Law. Thereafter he worked with Davis Polk in New York and London for over six years before joining Allen & Overy in Hong Kong in 2011.

Amit is part of the India practice group as well as the US Securities practice in Hong Kong.

Last year, Allen & Overy had promoted 19 lawyers to partnership across all offices including NLSIU graduate Gautam Narasimhan in the firm’s Singapore office
