[Breaking]: SAM goes strong in south with CAM’s Chennai team

Pallavi Saluja

Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas has hired Cyril Amarchand’s Chennai team including Partner Dorothy Thomas and a team of 9 lawyers and staff, according to authoritative sources.

As reported by Bar & Bench, Dorothy Thomas had resigned last month to set up independent practice. However, she has now decided to join the SAM office along with most of her team.

It is also understood that earlier there were discussions about shutting down the Chennai office but as we understand both, Chennai and Hyderabad, will operate with about roughly four lawyers in each city.

Shardul Shroff, Cyril Shroff and Dorothy Thomas were all unavailable for comment at the time of publishing the story.

Dorothy and team would be joining Anand Bhushan, who is heading Shardul Amarchand’s Chennai office.

Just under four years ago, the then undivided Amarchand Mangaldas had opened an eight-lawyer office in Chennai. After the split, the Chennai office came under Cyril Shroff’s umbrella.
