The appointment comes weeks after the Supreme Court Collegium recommended Singh along with seven other judicial officers for appointment to the High Court.

The Central government on Monday notified the appointment of judicial officer Gurvinder Pal Singh as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court.

The notification was issued by Union Law and Justice Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal.

The appointment comes nearly a month after the Supreme Court Collegium had recommended Singh's appointment along with seven other judicial officers on September 10.

The Collegium had recommended eight names for appointment as judges of the Delhi High Court.

Singh was the only one among the eight whose appointment had not been notified in the Centre's earlier notification dated September 19.

With Singh's appointment on Monday, the Delhi High Court will have 44 judges against its sanctioned strength of 60, leaving 16 vacancies.
